Filmed last year in May this video shows a discussion about whether the original famed ‘Four Season’ restaurant in NYC will survive or not. It is now known it will not and in July this year, everything in the restaurant will be auctioned off.
Designed at every level by a roll call of famous architects and designers, the design of everything from the fixtures to the cutlery shows the sure hand of the fabulous design ethic in NYC in the 1950′s and 60′s that was shown off across the world in the TV show ‘Mad Men’
Add to that it’s reputation for THE place to have a power lunch with heads of state, royalty, too many celebrities to list and the usually unseen but always well known decision makers in the most elite of NYC circles all turning up here and you have the reason why the Four Seasons is spoken of in hushed tones amongst those in the know.
It will re-open elsehwere and it will be fascinating to see whether the 2 owners can re-create such an iconic space, which will not look the same but can probably survive if they preserve the all important combination of exclusivity, prestige and assured confidentiality which has made the original so famous.
Meanwhile if you have ever dined there or wished to dine there, you can immortalize it within your own life by buying some cutlery, dishes, salt shakers or napkins from Four Seasons when EVERYTHING goes up for sale after July 16th. Chicago based firm Wright Auction House is conducting the sale.
Of all tthe rituals ofconstant rituals change in NYC the fulln auction of contents is one of the saddest but aslo he on which bringse oy to those who ordinarily would nt get alook in.
