It’s here, NYC’s cat centric Meow Parlour has opened its doors. Initially it is just offering people the chance to hang out with 7 cats at $4 per 30 minutes. Long a ‘thing’ in Taiwan and Japan, the 2 owners Emilie Legrand and Christine Ha are familiar with these overseas parlours and are now bringing their expertise to a storefront space in the L.E.S. at 46 Hester St.
The cats are provided by ‘Kitty Kind’, a local rescue and adoption agency and the intention is there’s a constant flow of cute cats through the Meow Parlour as cat happy patrons have met their kitty match and adopt their favorite cat.
Before long there will also be a Meow Patisserie nearby where you can buy macaroons and jam cookies to bring with you to the Meow Parlour to nibble while you enjoy the company of cats on offer. Let’s hope it does well, offering cat deprived New Yorkers with their cat fix and also finding homes for cats needing a permanent loving home. These cat cafes are taking off around the world proving there is something more than just a cute kitty fixation happening on social media. There’s people out there wanting to bring feline friends into their hearts and homes on a permanent basis.
