Dear 7 Train, can we take the money put into your shiny new station over on the west side and use it fix up your awful service on the rest of the line? We know, we know too late for that now, but 7 train do you realize what you do our lives don’t you?.
We fall out of bed on a freezing morning, well not yet but the cold weather is coming, and then you just whizz past us at our station when you’re meant to stop! It’s not fair. You don’t even let us know that what we know is a local local stop has suddenly become an express. I mean how does that work? How am I supposed to get to work when I can’t rely on you?
I can see other crammed in passengers on the train as you whizz past without stopping. Why do they get to ride on you and I don’t? And then if you graciously stop for me, like you’re supposed to, first there’s the horrible morning and evening crush of too many of us in one carriage. But worse it might take forever for me to get to my destiantion as your signals play up and you go slow giving me a heart attack about what will happen if you actually just stop in a tunnel.
I’ve checked up on you 7 train because you’re never there for me and I want to know and I want to know if it’s personal. And so I discover that 37% of your stations need repairing and if I ever get off at the 52nd street stop I’ll regret it for the rest of my life because it’s a horrible, horrible experience. So no it’s not personal, you treat all commuters badly.
And now I’m supposed to cheer because you have this brilliant new station at 34th St and 11th ave? Well your beautifully designed escalator broke down as soon as it opened and the toilets ditto. And excuse me for being bitter here, but that just makes your shiny new station just like every other subway station who all have toilets that are unusable.
Now I really need you 7 train, but I’m in despair. Should I shift, permanently start using a different route to work or…..what? Your new station is no use to me, I want the rest of you to just get me to work on time. Too much to ask, seems like it!
