Here’s the story,NYTimes of one of those magnificent Mom and Pop shops which abound in NYC.
But first watch the video of these wondrous Rumba dancers and watch their shoes, because this is a story about dancing shoes.
The shop, Worldtone Dance is located upstairs at 580 Eight Avenue and it is a mecca for dancers amateur and professional who want to waltz, rumba, salsa, swing or tap dance across the boards and do it in comfortable but snazzy looking shoes.
Lovely quote from the owner Lani Spear “These are athletic shoes disguised as sexy high-heel shoes.” And the same could be said of the dress shoes the male dancers wear, ordinary on the outside, pure movement on the inside.
If you’re into Dance Sports or professional dancing chances are you already know about this shop started in 1974 by Lani’s parents and still going strong and beloved by it’s clientele.
If you’re not into dancing but you go along to see Cinderella on Broadway you will be watching a whole broadway show of Worldtone shoes dance across the boards. Just about my my favorite thing NYC specialty shops that have been going forever. So New York. LIKE small specialty shops in NYC
