It’s boiling hot in NYC right now, the time when everyone strips down to the least amount of clothing in order to keep cool. But if you are strolling around outside in the heat in NYC you will notice something very odd. The only men who seem to wear shorts on the sidewalk are fairly obviously tourists.
Now NYC has just had its very first NYC Men’s Fashion Week and there were a number of stylish culottes for men being shown on the runways but short shorts? No. It’s a bit like the issue with crop tops for ladies. Beautiful young misses who are thin look great in them. If men are going to wear shorts they should have sleek bronzed calves or just don’t do it.
Probably the most famous photographer in NYC is Fran Leibowitz who demonstrates her eye for style endlessly in photographs she takes which make us swoon. Her personal style is quite mannish but she pulls it off with effortless self confidence and everyone copies bits and pieces of what she wears because she always looks… well stylish.
Her words on the issue of NYC men wearing shorts in NYC puts it best “…the people you most want to see them on aren’t wearing them.” Stylish men in NYC just don’t wear them and that’s it really. Poor them in the hot weather.
The video is interesting on shorts. The 2 guys in the video who run Cladwell, work well together. One is an out and out fashion maven, the other is your ordinary guy who isn’t all that fashion conscious but doesn’t want to look like a dork. In the discussion about wearing shorts it becomes clear that even in a place like Cincinnati, where these two hail from, the basic issue about shorts is be very careful where and how you wear them. In NYC up that caution by a factor of 10.
