Everyone seems agreed. If the Mets are to have any chance of making the playoffs then their bullpen’s performance has got to improve in 2013.
Sure they have Johan Santana but can he improve his numbers and will his health hold up so he can improve on his number of starts this season?
Jonathan Niesse, Dillon Gee and Matt Harvey are all solid and make good starters. But it’s the relievers that need to improve
Coming in with their bullpen ranked 29th out of 30 teams in Major League Baseball, the Mets have had to bring in fresh talent.
Sandy Alderson has made some changes. Brandon Lyon has come in a should prove a good addition and could even be a closer.
Scott Atchinson, LaTroy Hawkin and Pedro Feliciano have also been brought in. And watch out for existing closers, Frank Francisco, Bobby Parnell and Josh Edgin. Together these guys can make the difference that’s needed.
There are a lot of unknowns at this point but the Met’s bullpen is looking stronger than last year and let’s see if they can pull themselves up the bullpen rankings. LIKE the Mets.
