The theft of iPhones in NYC accounts for 14% of all crime in NYC. Pretty horrifying statistic!
As people hunch over their phones in the subway or just walking down the street they can just be snatched out of their hands.
It all happens because there is a strong secondary market in used iPhones and crooks capitalize on that by ripping off your phone and on-selling it.
Now a ray of hope, Apple is agreeing to attach a ‘kill switch’ to iPhones rendering it useless if it is stolen.
See the video about why it has proved hard to get Apple to agree to this up to now.
But it’s happening now. So New Yorkers can look forwards to those iPhone theft stats tumbling down. LIKE it when crime doesn’t pay.
