With the wise words of Evan Katz ringing in our ears about not mistaking chemistry for anything profound, interesting or lasting let’s look at what’s been served up on a recent list of good places for first dates, see here..
First Up GINNY’S SUPPER CLUB with live jazz and a cabaret show. Next DEAR BRUSHWICK with a distinctly British flavor and PENROSE with ample offerings of both beer and whiskey.
Then ACME a swanky way to go but make sure you can get past the door person, CAFE DANCER that offers a distinctly artistic vibe and ALPHABET CITY BEER CO. if you want to show off your beer knowledge.
Finally MIDDLE BRANCH which offers lots of dark places to cuddle up in and terrific cocktails.
I note all these places give you something to talk about if the conversation flags but are also kind of temporary with a ‘Let’s have a drink’ atmosphere rather than “Let’s settle in a have a meal”.
Good thinking. A first date is exploratory, you don’t know much about each other and you need to keep it light in any case. So enjoy, discover and ahve a good time whatever the verdict. COMMENT on what makes for a good first date.
