NYC is supposed to be the city that never sleeps. The truth however is that the bulk of New Yorkers snooze the night away. But if you have insomnia, you’re sufffering jet lag, you’re a night owl or a student cramming for an important exam you will find plenty of food and amusements right through the night.
The shopping opportunitites are many from your friendly corner bodega, to delicatessens, to pharmacies, even electronics stores (Best Buy Union Square) and hardware stores it’s all on offer. You will have no trouble finding a place to buy what you want in NYC. Those offering 24 hr services will have a big neon sign on their store so you can’t miss it. Go out and buy no matter the time.
Gyms, beauty salons, hair salons and spas are all available 24 hours a day. Certainly not all of them but the allnightersw are there with their 24 hrs service sign letting you know. Getting a haircut at midnight can be very relaxing and if you’re super busy during the day why not!
The subway, buses and the Staten Island Ferry all operate at night and on the buses you can even ‘Request-a-stop’ at night, that is a drop off at a point other than regular stops. Of course taxis, Uber and Lyft also all operate. With yellow cabs, if you are going to an outer borough at night, make sure you DO NOT give your destination until you are safely seated in the cab. If your cab driver refuses, tell him a refusal is illegal and if he still won’t take you, snap a pic of his license so you can provide it to the authorities.
CLUBBING AND BARS
Most clubs and bars close their doors at 2.00am but the party goes on until 4.00am when the booze stops flowing. Then there’s a 3 hour break and then it’s on again at 7.00am…if you have the stamina.
There are a lot of choices of both take out and sit down and of course you can always order delivery through Seamless on a 24 hr basis. Chinatown offers some great after hours food, see the video of what’s on offer at a big favorite Wo Hops which is busy 24 hrs a day. But you can find Russian, Mexican, Indian, Latin American, Greek, Korean and Japanese nosh as well as Deli foods and pizza. You will never go hungry in NYC, no matter what the hour.

New York’s parks services offer camping out opportunities and certainly in Central Park there are late night nature walks and bike rides on offer. As well some museums and sporting facilities offer you opportunities to sleep overnight on their premises, including New York’s Museum of Natural History.
