Apparently New Yorker’s secret vice is a ‘Pickleback’ with so many indulging that it’s a wonder there’s any whisky or pickle juice left anywhere else in the nation.
That’s what it is, a drink consisting of a shot of whisky followed immediately by a shot of pickle juice, see the video, in which a small group of New York newbies are introduced to the drink for the first time.
The origin story is that it was invented by Reggie Cunningham at the famed Bushwick Country club in Williamsburg in 2006 and that it was immediately popular because the pickle juice not only cut the burn of the alcohol but ensured no hangover the next day. Whatever, it’s now a ‘secret vice’ all over NYC? More like it’s a closley guarded secret among whisky drinkers that is now getting out to others.
Who cares, if you can down Jamiesons alll night like a New York native and fend oiff a hangover at the same time, waht’s not to like.
