Think of all those jobs you see people doing or know about people are doing in New York day after day. Mostly we’re clueless about what’s involved in actually doing them or even that there are jobs that are so different to what we know about. Fox News has created a series during which they put one of their intrepid reporters ‘Jen’ into the shoes of some of those workers to find out what unusual jobs involve. Oh and of course they picked yukky or just straight up dirty jobs. The first video show Jen at Belmont Park, shoveling manure and washing down horses. There was no cruelty to animals involved you’ll be pleased to know.
Everyone likes to look great and for the male of the species that can involve having their chest hair waxed off. In this video you see Jen bracing herself to cause pain as has she rips those hair follicles out.
In this job placement Jen finds out how a New York Beekeeper earns his or her keep. Keeping bees on NYC rooftops has now become a thing, so if you are a beekeeper your job opportunities have increased but the segment doesn’t give you a sense Jen is about to give up TV reporting for beekeeping.
Who would have thought it, those big fish tanks at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal have to be regularly cleaned out. Well it’s logical when you think about it, but who does? Anyway Jen slips into a wetsuit and allows herself to be schooled in the art of cleaning down slimy fake rock.
I hope Fox news keeps going with this and covers a lot more unusual New York jobs, it is great finding out about all the things New Yorkers do to earn a living that are realtively hidden from view.
