Flushing Meadows Corona Park NYC, is big. As a result it is home to a number of sporting facilities and has hosted two World Fairs.
It is the home of the NY Mets at Citi Field, the US Open is held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and it has an Aquatic Center as well.
Recently it has been suggested that it should house the first big soccer stadium in NYC and some locals have not liked the idea of taking some of the parkland.
Now a survey of all NYC’s Parks using computer mapping technology has shown Corona Park is 350 acres smaller than it was thought to be.
Almost all the other parks mapped gained in size, but this one didn’t. Some mistake made in the past is to blame.
Not sure if that supports or weakens the case for a soccer stadium. The 13 acres needed sounds pretty small to the 350 acres gone at a key stroke. LIKE all NYC’s wonderful parks
