Somewhere between 11-18% of New Yorkers use Twitter. It’s hard to say exactly because surveys give different figures.
What is indisputable is that of the major social media sites, Twitter is used the least. Instagram is used about the same as Twittr, but unlike Twitter it’s use is rising steadily.
Compared to Twitter’s limited use Facebook commands a 71-75% share of the market, a stunning lead over all other social media.
Both Linkedin and Pinterest get more use by New Yorkers than Twitter with 22% and 21% respectively using these sites.
The pattern of Twitter calls demonstrates some social realitites. For instance Democrats and Republics twitter to each other, but not across party lines.
On the whole people twitter to each other about issues they have in common with others, be they political, social or business issues. The exception is what are called ‘broadcast’ conversations, they’re the ones that happen between a celebrity and their millions of followers. Hem, you know who you are sports, TV and Film stars.
