Even if you are not a fan of martial arts there’s something very attractive about Mixed Martial Arts. It’s so all in, so massively combative. It seems made for a city like NYC where getting anywhere, doing anything requires just these qualitites.
So it is a mystery really why MMA which is now legal in 46 other states but is still only allowed as an amteur sport in NYC.
As recently as May 12 another attempt to change the law on this was defeated.
Perhaps it has something to do with NYC’s strong boxing history? I’ve certainly seen very sneering references to it in boxing news stories and blogs.
Whatever the reason this hybrid sport, a mixture it seems of all 2 person boxing/wresting/martial arts combat sports ever practised, is now hemmed in by rules to make it as safe as possible.
It is the fastest growing sport in America and there’s not the slightest doubt entrepreneurs and merchandizers are eager to get it going big time in NYC on a fully commercial basis. But how long it takes the State Assembly to change it’s mind isn’t easy to guess right now. COMMENT on making MMA legal in NYC. LIKE this new sport of MMA.
