NYC’s emergency responders and the Federal Department of Homeland Security put themselves through a simualted terror attack in the subway last weekend.
The Bowery Station in the Lower East Side was closed down as the 3 hour drill put emergency responders through their paces.
They had to cope with a shooter with a suicide vest, 4 other active shooters, 12 critically injured casualties and 30 other casualties. NYPost
Given the wave of terror attacks in Europe and Africa it’s re-assuring that these drills are being held because NYC, realistically, is definitely a possible terror target.
And fortunately the exercise didn’t go to plan because it was found that it was hard for different agencies to communicate due to the challenges of using radios underground. NYPost
How fantastic that that piece of operational news is now available to all concerned. It’s miles better to know that now than to find out when there’s a real attack going on.
Now find the solution and then hold another drill and see if there is further fine tuning that has to happen. We definitely don’t want any terror attacks to happen, but if one does, the response needs to be as good as it can be.
