The secret to staying sane on the crowded, bustling streets of NYC with kids in tow is all about keeping a few principles in mind.
But first, if you are new at the game, rest assured that there are tons of kid specific activities and places to take your kids of all ages, including the grown up variety.
First principle, tailor your activities to the age of your kids. Don’t take under 6-8 year olds into super crowded places, too difficult to keep track of them.
Second principle, locate all the places that are kid friendly either because of the activities (e.g. carousels) or because of special safety measures. For e.g. in summer weather take young children to the water themed kid’s playground in the Hudson Riverside Park; it’s very securely fenced and gated and all the activities super safe. Other similar outings, specific to kids of different ages are available.
Third principle: get clever at locating toilets which is not super easy in Manhattan at least. Think McDonalds, large Department Stores, Starbucks, Museums and some parks like the Hudson Riverside Park. But take note that lots of smaller parks don’t have them.
