Mayor Bloomberg has laid out a $20b plan to keep NYC going if another hurricane strikes, to help the city recover quickly and keep going.
And expect a sea level rise due to hotter temperatures so what’s proposed is going to be necessary, hurricane or not.
Reflecting the varied nature of the 520 mile+ coastline of NYC varied treatments will be needed, there’s no silver bullet.
A mix of storm barriers, floodwalls, levees, dunes, esplanades and wetlands will be needed depending on varying coastal conditions.
And most surprisingly a new ‘Seaport city’ is being proposed on the east side.
Plans for keeping utilities going, looking after the vulnerable and keeping the transport going are all part of the plan. LIKE effective long term planning to keep NYC and it’s people safe.
