NYC’s Health Department has fessed up that having done the same thing for 20 years so they are now trying new tactics to tackle the rat problem in NYC, see here.
Since 2009 they have been using the usual tactic which is setting baits in the Subway but baits in boxes which trap the rats once they’ve eaten them allowing the city to build up a body count of how many rats are killed. Whether this has yielded a better statistical grasp on rat numbers is not yet known
Now in 2013 a brand new tactic is being useed which is to use baits which sterilize the female rats. Whether this works won’t be known for a while.
Meanwhile New Yorkers are ever vigilant in trying to keep rats out of their houses and businesses. Everyone concerned with the rat problem says it all comes down to the rubbish. Control the rubbish and you control the rats.
So if each New Yorker took responsibility for keeping rubbish in rat proof containers, plus plugging up all the holes where rats enter homes and businesses the situation would become a lot better.
Add that type of concerted community effort to what the Health Department is doing and the rat war may be won. But as of now the rats are winning. COMMENT on how to win the rat war. LIKE community action as a great weapon against rats.
