New York’s famed improv group ‘Improv Everywhere’ pioneered this event in 2002 and 2 things have changed since then. The first ride consisted of 7 people and now several thousand expose their barely covered butts to the stares and freezing weather of a NYC winter. Secondly cell phones are now everywhere and if you participate expect to be photographed and selfied to the max. Oh and the event has now become a ‘thing’ right around the world.
Improv Everywhere specializes in staging shocking, strange and always hilarious events in the streets of NYC so eveyone has a chance at having a good laugh. See the second video so you can apprecaite another example of their art.
The central feature of their performances is always staging something that makes eveyone stop and stare but the people taking part, the improvisors, treat the whole thing as everyday. They have turned a carousel ride into a full on horse race complete with snazzy clothes and a race caller, restaged the ghostbuster raid in the New York Public Library and had hundreds of people stop in mid step at the Grand Central Terminal.
About 2,000 people are expected to take part in the 2016 ‘No Pant’s Subway Ride’ 2016 on January 10th, next Sunday. Anyone who’s prepared to ride the subway in their underwear and keep a stright face is invited to participate No Pants Subway Ride 2016. See this link for details of enrolling to take part. It’s so much fun, go on join in.
