NYC is always creating new traditions. One in the making is Bodypainting Day which has been going for several years now. This year it will be held on July 18th at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza East 47th St. at 2nd Ave.
One of NYC’s best known body painting artists, Andy Golub, will be there along with a bunch of other very talented and enthusiastic bodypaint artists. Another necessary ingredient is a group of people willing to strip right off and stand still for long enough to have their boides covered in works of art. And a group also willing to then be photographed and looked at by all the appreciative bystanders who come to see this most unusual art show.
These works of art are very arresting and beautiful, the combination of bodies, color, design and movement creating something quite magical and different. But it is like a musical performance, unless it is captured in some way it is utterly fleeting. So let’s hope there are lots of video cameras around to provide New Yorkers with a lasting record.
