The video that goes with this post is hilarious. It was the only one I could find which showcased some of the artists in this year’s exhibition. It’s was with Mr Divabetic who interviewed a bunch of them in the process of pushing his message about not eating foods that will give you diabetes. Great fun and his message is spot on!
The story of the beginning of the Washington Square Park Art show, which is the subject of the post, is legendary.
Starving artists Jackson Pollock and Willem DeKooning put paintings out on the pavement in Greenwich Village in an effort to get enough to pay their rent and buy food.
Whoever finished up buying those paintings got art that is now so highly rated and valuable there are very few people who can afford to buy them.
Apart from some lucky buyers the other result of their impromptu sale was that art enthusiasts with great credentials in the art world subsequently organized what then became a bi-annual art show.
The Outdoor Art Exhibit showcases artists and craft people from around the world and people flock because of the incredibly high standard of what is displayed.
