It’s serious when an iconic NYC deli which has NEVER opened up anywhere else announces it is creating an outpost in Brooklyn. Yes Katz’s is going to be part of the projected huge new Dekalb Market Hall in Downtown Brooklyn which will open in 2016. New York’s best pastrami is two timing, unbelievable!
It’s been happening for a while, this Brooklyn migration. The borough has already absorbed Whole Foods, J Crew, H & M and Apple is on the starting blocks to find its Brooklyn space. And no self respecting fashion brand would dream of not making a nod to Williamsburg in way or another these days: hello Rough Trade, Cucina & Tavola and Urban Outfitters.
But the really big steal is innovative tech. The Brooklyn Tech Triangle which takes in Dumbo, Downtoen Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Naval Yards is now home to over 500 tech and creative companies. Etsy, Makerbot, Game Innovation Lab, HUGE and Pontiflex are among them, see the first video.
Remember a few years ago when everyone was moaning about how gentrification and high rises were ruining all the stimulating creativity that has always been part of the city. Yeh, well guess where no one thought to look? Forget dreary old Manhattan, it’s all happening in Brooklyn, it’s about as creative as you can get. Chcek out
