Marvel comics had its beginning in 1939 as Timely Publications at 330 W 42nd Street. They started small there with their first superheroes the Human Torch, the Sub Mariner and most famously Captain America. Of course later The Avengers, the Fantastic Four, not to mention Wolverine, Spiderman, Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor also made an appearance along with others.
While Marvel grew steadily through the 40′s -70′s it is doubtful the original owners ever imagined the superhero characters they created would conquer the world as part of a huge comic/film/video games/TV shows/theme park congolomerate that now generates huge amounts of money for Disney, the current owners. Or that their characters would become so beloved by everyone from children to adults.
The current Marvel Comics company, still in NYC, though in a different building, readily acknowledge that the Marvel Universe is centered in NYC and now they wish to honor that relationship. So Marvel is issuing 15 special covers with Marvel characters in iconic NYC settings such the subway, the sheep meadow in Central Park, at a hot dog stand and at the Statue oif Liberty. They will all be released in May. So watch out for them and pick up the series. They would look very nice indeed framed and on the wall of a NYC apartment. See the video for some of the sites used by Marvel Comic authors as settings for various superhero adventures.
