NYC is a very, very busy city. But if you pick your moment and the right place you can have an experience of quiet and peace. And a lesson in co-existence. Watch the video and meet some of the squirrels and birds of Washington Square.
Now Washingtron Square can be super, super busy especially in the middle of the day. People come here to sit and relax, take their kids to the playground, listen to the musicians who play here and generally just enjoy one of the most beautiful Squares in NYC. And people also come to gaze upon it’s wonderful Triumphal Arch. Yup, right in the Square is a big memorial to, who else, George Washington.
But to some critters Washington Square is home. Meet the Square’s squirrels and pigeons. As you can see they are a fat, happy lot. And so they should be. Everyone who comes here loves them and more importantly from the critter’s point of view, everyone feeds them.
That’s why the person filming their delightful interraction with the squirrels and birds got their great shots. Those squirrels aren’t just being cute, they’re saying, just like the Times Square Desnudas, ‘Pay up Buddy!”
If you come later in the day and when it’s not raining you will find a heap of park visitors who sit on the seats filmed in this clip with pigeons draped all over them and squirrels galore waiting for their feed of the day. I know New Yorkers for whom, the necessary preparation for their visit to Washington Park is to stop of at the shop just over the road from the Park where you can buy bird seed and other goodies so they can keep fatih with their Washington Square park critter buddies.
