Lincoln Center’s International Summer Festival is just getting underway. It runs from July 6-28 and it’s offering an overall 62 performances and troupes from 10 countries.
But the centrepiece of the Festival is Monkey – Journey To The West. To get an idea of the power and wonder of this show see the video. It’s based on an ancient Chinese Story from the 15th Century.
An intriguing, powerful, eye-popping mixture of acting, singing, dancing, acrobats, animation and video this fusion of Chinese and Western culture is deeply entertaining and surprizing.
It is a show which seduces with its colourful and ever changing sets, its stunning acrobatics and the music which is an unexpected and wonderful mixture of Chinese Opera and modern pop rock.
The music is by Brit, Damon Albarn and the show is directed a by Chen Shi-Zeng and British artist Jamie Hewlett is responsible for the visual pyrotechnics.
