In the abstract electric cars anywhere, especially in New York seems like a great idea.
They’re silent, think of the bliss of that, and they put out emissions that are much smaller than the current gas guzzlers we all drive.
But like all good ideas that haven’t yet been put through the fire of experience they have not lived up to their promise.
They are far too expensive for most people and the need for lots of charging stations is a slow process fraught with issues about who will pay for the new infrastructure.
The City Administration is all in favor of electric cars, has a whole fleet of them and is pushing for many more charging stations. Good luck with that.
Meanwhile electric cars really did do very well during the recent gas crisis following Hurricane Sandy and costs will come down over time. WE hope so, because we really do need to clean up our atmosphere. LIKE the idea of electric cars, especailly if they were cheaper.
