If you’re a kid and you live in NYC you know plenty about museums. Likely you’ve been visting them from when you were very young, then there’s school trips and everytime your grands come to town they’ll take you as well. But what if you’d like to do it on your own terms, explore out of hours, ask questions, meet the people who actually run the the museum or follow up on your interest in superheroes, see the video. Now New York kids and kid visitors to NYC can do just that.
NYC’s prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art is going digital in a way especially designed just for kids to allow them to do all of the above. The brand new #MetKids intiative lets your kid follow their interests on a website, facebook, instagram or twitter. And if they go to the website they can explore an interactive map, hop into a time machine or explore a particular object or period to their heart’s content. See Metkids Site
The online materials are already available not just to New York kids but kids all round the world which is what is so exciting and ground breaking. It’s a huge step for a big prestigious museum like the Met to provide easy ways for one group of their customers to easily access what is interesting to them. All the rest of NYC’s museums should do the same thing for ALL their customers, especially for those people who because of distance, age or disability find it hard to get to the actual building where the museum is housed.
