There’s currently a show on in NYC at Friedman Benda Gallery, 515 W 26th St, showing furniture constructed using metallic 3D printing.
This is the latest evidence of the incredible innovation possible using new generation 3D technology.
The furniture was produced using a MX3D Machine, that looks like an orange crane that can move around in lots of directions, that does 3D printing using metal.
New York’s 2 major 3D printer manufacturers, MakerBot and Shapeway are now producing 3D printers that are priced to appeal to a wider range of manufacturers and individuals than ever before.
What it happening is no less than a manufacturing revolution, one that doesn’t involve huge factories and a large work force but one that may involve only one machine and one person. Many on the ball New York entrepreneurs are looking to use this technology to open unique businesses of different sorts.
As the current center of 3D technology in the nation, and as a pre-eminently important innovation hub, New York is leading the way in this process.
