Watch this scratchy but rivetting archival video of President Kennedy at a fund-raiser at Madison Square Garden in 1962.
Apart from showing footage of him it also shows footage of the most famous part of that MSG visit, when Marilyn Monroe sang ‘Happy Birthday Mr President’ to him.
JFK and his legacy is being discussed and re-examined this week as the 50th anniversary of his assassination is commemorated this Friday Nov 22.
To honor the occasion, the New York Public Library has a Pop-Up Exhibition which opens Wed Nov 20th and runs until Dec 1 at the Stephen Schwazman Building at Fifth Ave & 42nd St
It contains art related to President Kennedy by Andy Warhol and others and also photos, artefacts, letters and various pieces of memorabilia.
The centre-piece of the exhibition is a letter from Arthur Schlesinger Jr sent to Jackie Kennedy after his death. The exhibition itself is called ‘Dearest Jackie: On the Death of JFK’ after his opening salution in that letter.
It will be open T-W 10-8, M,Th,Fri,Sat 10-6pm and sun 1-5pm FREE. LIKE commemorating such a difficult time in NYC and elsewhere.
