Smorgasburg, open every weekend in Brooklyn Bridge Park, Williamsburg and now Queens, has become a huge incubator of superb artisanal food offerings in NYC. It’s vendors, usually about 100 per market day, have perfected the formula. Get a tent at Smorgasburg, try out your food concept, build loyal fans to the point where more and more people want what you sell. Then do stints at food markets all over, let the Food Halls come to you cap in hand to get you to set up in what they offer and suddenly your smorgasburg stand has catapulted you into a thriving and expanding business.
And the other great thing, the food really is superb, passion it turns out is a magic ingredient. Now other people have taken the same route, the same formula, notably coffee entrepreneurs. Smorgasburg hasn’t done it all on it’s own but it’s safe to say the artisnal food concept would not have spread as far or as fast without that Saturday, Sunday hit of unbelievable food avaialble in brooklyn every weekend.
The expansion into Queens is very new but the rist weekend brought rapturous reviews of the Queens themed food on offer and now smorgasburg is taking another huge step. This weekend, on July 18th, they are partnering with Seamless to give you the option of never having to venture outdoors. Just ring Seamless and order the Smoregasburg selection that will be available. Only lucky Queens and Brooklyn residents are in on this deal. But if it goes wel Manhattanites who knows. Good eating.
