Oh Dear. I guess we all think that people who go on online dating sites may lie a little. It’s quite different to have it confirmed and to see what it is people lie about the most.
And it’s a real shock to find out that New Yorkers do it more than others in the country. See NYPost.
The national average of liars online is 19% for men and 27% for women. For New Yorkers a whopping 33% of men and 34% of women deviate from the truth.
And what do people lie about? Men tend to lie about relationship status, career and salary and their social status generally. Women lie most about their weight, age and nationality.
There are services that help you weed out the fakes but that seems a bit heavy and an unwarranted expense for the coffee meet and greet phase. Just be well prepared for a surprise when your ‘date’ turns up.
I wonder why New Yorkers present themselves with more gilding more than elsewhere? Is this a town where appearance/status means more than it does to others? What do you think? LIKE honesty.
