It’s the little things that count. In the midst of vigorous campaigning during the New York primaries Hillary Clinton was suddenly just like everyday New Yorkers, she failed to swipe her subway card properly and the danged turnstile wouldn’t turn over and let her onto the platform.
Now New York subway aficionados tutt tutted because for eons they have had just the right degree of movement and the sipe movement down pat. But every New Yorke also has buried in their subconscious those first few tentative swipes they ever took that completely failed and how everyone glared at them. So suddenly she was mortal.
Who knows who will win the New York primaries. and will it matter? But every New Yorker knows and loves the subway and every New Yorker also now knows none of the other candidates had either the inclination or the smarts to go where every single New Yorker goes on a daily basis.
Do you think Donald Trump has ever ridden the subway? Would Ted Cruz immerse himself in the most mutli-cultural experience available to him in NYC? Whatever Bernie Sanders relationship with the NYC subway is, he hasn’t put it on display. But Hillary Clinton did and she shmucked up like everyone else and it jsut may be worth primary gold for her.
