You’ve lived in NYC for quite a few years, you know your own neighbourhood thoroughly and you know enough about nearby ones to have opinions.
You are aware that lots of visitors to the city or people from other parts of New York would kill for some of our inside knowledge, but hey, you’ve earned it.
Well now there are people who want you to donate it, share it, get some small recompense for it, and kind of honor you for it.
Enter the latest app Urban Buddy, joining in with New York Greeters (a non-internet volunteer based service) and internet based services, Sosh, Elite Yelper and Google’s new service: Google City Experts Program.
The Elite Yelper program and the Google City Experts Program both offer entry into select invitee only events where you get to meet up with local business people and collect lots of swag while you are eating and drinking at someone else’s expense. To be considered for either program you have to have been providing ongoing relevant reviews of local services and businesses.
Urban buddy doesn’t seem to offer any incentives that I can see and I know New York Greeters just do it for the love of it. Greeters meet people from overseas or out of state and guide them around their neighbourhood just because they love helping and love where they live. The Sosh App provides information about events, activities and great places to go in your neighbourhood using locals information and reviews.
Do any of these programs tempt you to share your hard won local knowledge New Yorkers? LIKE when New Yorkers are honoured for their local knowledge.
