The very first Independence Day was July 4th 1776 when Americans declared their their independence from English rule.
That declaration resulted in the War of Independence which concluided in 1783, acknowledging that Americans now had control of their own land.
The American constitution as drafted in 1787 and ratified in 1788. And then George Washington was elected as the first Presidentin New York in 1789, the place where the first legislature also sat.
It’s such a happy day Independence Day and it’s normally celebrated in New York with fireworks, outdoor barbeques and a lot of holiday fun because it’s hot then and you can do lots of great things outdoors.
Macy’s Fireworks display in New York City is the largest such show in the whole nation. The fireworks are launched from 4 barges which this year will be anchored in the Lower East river.

There will also be a whole day of celebrations held at the South Street Seaport with face painting for the kids and a live music show all day. Get along there and have enhjoy everything on offer.
July 4th is also the day of Nathan’s Famous Fourth of International HoT Dog Eating contest. it starts at noon at Nathan’s on Coney Island and is generally regarded as the msot important annual eating contest in the nation.
There are various paid walking tours also available to sites in New York City which are part of the city’s Revolutionary past. And also prime viewing spots for watching the fireworks offered by a number of hotels, for a price of course.
This year everyone is anxiously watching the weather. First a hurricane was forecast, now that’s been modified, and let’s hope it’s all fine for the fireworks on Friday.
