The glamor and glitz around the regular bi-annual New York Fashion Week shows is so intense it’s easy to forget the whole point of it all is to sell, sell, sell. The very first men’s NYFW was unashamably about reaching buyers in closer proximity to the selling cycle for men’s clothes. The only real barometer of success will therefore be how much is sold and time weill tell.
There was certainly a lot of media interest and all New York’s premier men’s designers took part: Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfinger, Calvin Klein for starters plus the new guys Michael Bashian, Public School, Tim Coppens and Baja East. And lots of others too. But the intense focus on celebritites turning up for runway presentations was absent. To make up for it, riotous mob scenes outside NYC nightclubs such as Up & Down in the Meatpacking District certainly let everyone know there was a lot celebrity focus around the whole event.
What about the fashion? Well there were some really great tailored looks but these were after all clothes meant for summer next year so there were bright colors and baggy shorts, culottes really. And as well a lot of sporty utility looks, zip ups all voer the place and sneakers galore. Interesting and well done but amazing? Watch the video and see what you think. And yes, those are gals you you see in one of the lineups. Come on guys you can totally carry this off on your own.
