This video shows a pretty disgusting sight, sewerage flowing down Gowanus Canal Brooklyn. Now this is a film from 5 years ago, and guess what, every year since similiar videos have been filmed and all under similiar circumstances. Everytime there’s heavy sumnmer or fall rain, the runoff feeds into the Gowanus Canal and then the canal floods close by streets.
Right now you should stay away from Second Ave in Brooklyn because the Canal has overflowed its banks yesterday due to heavy rain. A day after the rain you will not be dealing with water and sewerage underfoot but the most disgusting pong imaginable because as the water has receded the slime, gunk and frankly awful stuff in the water is now being ‘ripened’ by the heat of the sun.
Okay, enough City Council, there’s supposed to be plenty of SuperFund money around to fix it, how about doing just that. After all nothing says New York as cosmopolitan, stylish center of the world like sewerage and sludge underfoot, not to mention revolting smells wafting past the nostrils of visitors who have come from half way across the nation or the world to see the wonders of the City. And how about actually caring about the New Yorkers who have to live not just with the Gowanus Canal sliming past their doorfronts all the time but a horrile, horrible pong every time it floods.
