The law has spoken and the word is ‘forbidden’. These days the brilliant break dancers you see in this video who have enlivened many a trip home on the subway are now in danger of getting a reckless endangerment ticket from the transit cops if they perform on trains.
It’s a pity for all New Yorkers because they are a touch of joy and exhuberance on what is usually a trip home from work when everyone can use a bit of entertainment. And it’s a pity for the dancers because they have lost the easiest way to showcase their skill and athleticism.
These days you will mostly find them in parks, the third video shows them performing in Battery Park and it’s great to know they still have their enthusiasm and skill and that they are around to help us enjoy our day. But it would be nice to see them back on the subway. At the very least MTA give them permission to peform on subway platforms.
