New York City’s Administration has put a lot of work into trying to stop the sale of counterfeit goods in NYC.
The reason is simple. New Yorkers miss out on $1b in revenue that could be used to pay for the City’s services to its citizens.
Up until now the main measure has been to make the sale of these goods illegal and this has to some extent driven the trade underground but not stopped it.
Now it is proposed that people who BUY these goods will face and stiff fine or even a yeaqr in jail.
Most of the people who buy these goods are not overseas but American tourists who take for granted that they can buy a fake Rolex or a fake Prada bag.
Imagine the outcry when the first person is prosecuted! But this is a great unfairness visited on the people of NYC. LIKE the idea of banning counterfeit goods.
