NYC has always had a vivid street food scene and now it is even more colorful and beguiling with the rise and rise of Dessert Trucks.
These Trucks ride around NYC and park where they can, usually in specific neighborhoods rather than trying to cover everywhere. They are painted bright colors and usually have long, long queues.
The desserts are yummy, usually quite cheap and it’s great to grab something new. However even though all the Trucks I’ll list have websites it’s not easy to keep track of them or know here they will be.
Here’s my list of what seems to be the most popular ones. Wafels & Dinges, selling Belgian waffles (everywhere); Chikalicious Desert Bar, great desserts, East village;Sweetery Truck, Midtown East;
Spot Dessert Bar, East Village and The Treats Truck Stop, Carroll Gardens.
The very well regarded Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream Truck, SoHo featured in the video; Cupcake Crew, Midtown East, Murray Hill; the fantastic Kyotofu, sensational Japanese food to go found in Hell’s Kitchen, Midtown West and the Theater District and finally The Treats Truck in Hell’s Kitchen, Chelsea and Midtown West.
If you see a flash of color in the distance it’s probably a Dessert Truck. Race up and join the queue. LIKE good instant food.
