What is it about Brooklyn? Not one but two thriving businesses based on essentially same business model are thriving there. The first is Etsy the online community of crafties welded into a powerful economic force by Etsey’s founders Robert Kalin, Chris Maguire and Haim Schoppik. The second is Brooklyn Flea set up by Jonathan Butler and Eric Demby.
Both depend on a network of people running their own business under the Etsy Banner or the Brooklyn Flea banner. At the same time the founders/operators bring a strict curatorial eye to what is sold under their banner to ensure the quality and appeal of goods.
Brooklyn Flea has managed to carve out an international reputation as has Etsy. And both are growing, fast.
As Spring arrives Brooklyn Flea has announced they will be providing a seasonal market called Smorgasbar at South Street Southport to help bring back the bustle to this area ravaged by Hurricane Sandy, see DNA Info.
This new venture is added onto the Brooklyn Flea incarnations in Fort Greene and Williamsburg, Dumbo’s Smorgasburg and their food concession at Central Park Summerstage. To get all the details about operating times etc go to Brooklyn Flea.
Collectively all these markets offer everything from antiques and vintage clothing to amazing food and everything in between. And they are regarded not only as the best of what the USA has to offer but they have world renown. Good going Brooklyn. COMMENT on what you expect from a good Flea Market. LIKE Flea Markets.
