What is it about Ramen that it inspires to much conflict and passion over who makes the best? Recently Grub Street ran an article on the best Ramen in the US.
Both Totto Ramen in Manhattan and Dassara Ramen in Brooklyn made the cut. Nonsense roared the critics, what about Ippudo in the East village or Tabarta in Hell’s Kitchen?
Interestingly an article in Village Voice last year also picked Totto Ramen as the best Ramen in NYC so it looks like they have the lock on the No.1 spot, except for all the people who don’t agree.
Perhaps it’s the very simplicity , yet subtlety of Ramen which provokes all the disagreement.
After all Ramen is flavoured broth with noodles, vegetables and protein. But the way it is put together can vary enormously.
It is truly an art form not to mention a delicious soup. Let’s end with a nod to Momofuku Noodle Bar, the inspiration for so much that is Ramen in NYC. You must visit and see what they offer. LIKE Ramen.
