Poor Statue of Liberty, no sooner had she been re-opened after having her crown restored than Hurricane Sandy ripped her skirts away.
The skirts in this sense were all the approaches visitors have to navigate to reach her august self.
The docks, buildings, walkways and security screening facilities were all destroyed or seriously damaged by Sandy.
Now with everything back in place you can again hop aboard a ferry leaving from Battery Park and pay your respects but bookings have to be made to go up further into the crown.
The Statue of Liberty holds such a strong grip on the hearts of all New Yorkers that it is fitting indeed that she re-admits people into her presence on America’s Birthday, the 4th of July.
Even with damage all around her she stood firm and strong, a symbol of the strength of New York and now we can all get up close and personal with her yet again.LIKE the symbolism of the Statue of Liberty.
