Sometimes shows/events in NYC are for everyone and some are only for the elite. The recent New York Fashion Week is an elite event and the art event, the current Armory Show is another.
These are both elite events for one important reason. They both carry the weight of extrordinary and extravagent creativity, the products of which are only available immediately to those who can pay the high cost of purchasing them.
In the case of fashion the trickle down effect on a more affordable range of fashion items is immediately recognisable. High end art doesn’t quite work that way but it’s safe to say the overall sensibility of our envirnoment is intimately linked to great art and that is the reason why we have Museums devoted to it’s display and study.
So regardless of our capacity to purchase the art displayed, it’s part of us, part of New York’s culture. So check out the video clip of the opening and find out how you respond to what’s on show.
Numerous celebrities flocked to the huge range of events associated with the Armory show, the most notable entertainers being Jay-Z and Beyonce who went to a show at MoMa to hear solange Knowles, Beyonce’s sister perform.
The public can attend this show. It’s $30 admission for a day, $15 for seniors and students and $60 for a 4 day ticket. On until March 10th. LIKE fabulous art.
