There’s something seductive about shopping in New York city. You know you can probably get a better price online, but the street cred of casually saying “I bought this when I was in New York’ is priceless. But the downside of shopping in NYC is you mostly have thousands of shopping choices. So where’s the best places to go to buy electronics?
If you are after Apple products you can indeed buy the exact same thing in stores throughout the nation but the Fifth Avenue Apple Store is way special. So go to 767 Fifth Ave and take yourself inside via that nifty glass box at the entrance and then just breathe and relax into being in the premier Apple store in NYC.
The place native New Yorkers do their electronics buying when not buying Apple is B & H (Photo, Video, Audio) see the video. You’ll find it at 420 Ninth Avenue and like in all very popular NYC stores wear comfortable shoes and expect big crowds. It’s simply the best and the prices are excellent.
After you’re past Apple and B & H, the electronics buying scene gets a little messy. Some swear by Best buy Stores, others won’t touch them, it seems to depend on who you gets to serve you. Apparently if you get great service they are unbeatable. The store at 529 Fifth Avenue, gets some good reviews and some not so good ones.
And finally Hammacher Schlemmer at 147 East 57th Street. This is the place if you want to drool over electronic wizardry of every kind. They have fabulous stuff, very cutting edge. I defy you to walk out of this store without buying something. It would ahve to be one of the most temping stores in NYC if you are into the farther reaches of electronic gizmos of all kinds.
