A media disagreement has broken out between the NYPost and the Bowery Boogie
At issue is the preservation of some New York Buildings, specifically some around Grand Central Station.
Ironically this exact same fight took place about Grand Central Station which was only saved from demolition in the 60′s by being designated as a ‘Landmark’.
The Bowery Boogie points out that not only Grand Central, but Central park, The Chyrsler building and The Empire State Building among others would all have been demolished if preservationists had not intervened.
It’s true that progress has it’s own momentum and rewards. But on the other side our historic buildings carry part of NYC’s soul.
Knock them down and what is lost can never ever be replaced. This happened to Penn Station and the regret still goes on. Lets be careful before too much more of our heritage building stock is removed. LIKE the buildings of NYC.
