Another example of great work by New York volunteers: the Food Bank For New York City which is an organization helping those having trouble getting enough food to eat.
But they don’t just hand out food. As well they help educate as many people as possible in how to make smart food and drink choices .
For example a new initiative, the ‘Change One Thing’ truck, has a huge sign on the side referring to water as a smart choice instead of soda.
The truck will be going around to all 5 Boroughs over summer offering games, competitions, snacks and prizes to engage school age kids in the process of discovering the pleasure and fun of making healthy eating choices.
The whole ‘Change One thing’ philosophy is to NOT expect teens to make drastic changes immediately but to help them just change one thing at a time, e.g. choosing an orange instead of a slice of pizza if hungry.
