A recent poll has found that post Sandy the biggest help for those in need were neighbors, friends and relatives, see Centre For Public Research
First responders also got some praise too but FEMA no. Which is all pretty sad really, finding out that the body set up to help people when disaster strikes, didn’t.
But who can be surprized that New Yorkers helped each other so wonderfully.
People shared food, water, generators and their houses with those who had lost everything and/or had nowhere to sleep.
And while the disaster experience was awful, the warmth and community cohesion was fantastic. People who received and those who gave are still talking about how the pain was lessened by discovering the quiet person who lived next door really cared and expressed that care in a 1000 ways.
