This adorable video is a loving tribute to the long-time residents of Greenpoint and the marvellous donut shop where it was filmed. They make old fashioned cake donuts by hand, no machinary. And in here everyone knows everyone else.
There’s a kind of tension in New York between the fast, slick shops and the neighborhood joints.
In the slick places it’s all bottom line and how to surf the latest trend or catch the next commercial breakthrough.
But a true neighborhood shop isn’t like that at all. There’s a comfortable familiarity, knowing everyone who comes in, the pleasure of maKing and doing in your own way.
Such a place is the Peter Pan Bakery at 727 Manhattan Ave, Greenpoint, Brooklyn which has been around for over 60 years, mostly unchanged and still working determinably to encompass the neighborhood while making a buck so they can keep going. Their donuts are very well known for their excellence but frankly it’s the neighborhood feel of the place that is so warming above all.
