While conventional dating sites have been growing ever less appealing and also proliferating wildly, Tinder has been blazing a path to glory.
People in New York and elsewhere are discovering that it is closer to how things work in real life. The profile laden approach of more conventional dating sites like match.com are seen as either too exposing or alterantively too easily scammed in some way.
Tinder on the other hand means you get people’s Facebook pics, with much less chance of them having lied about their age or physical appearance.
It’s much more like walking into a bar and eyeballing those guys or gals that appeal to you and then deciding to check it out.
In other words it’s more casual, less fraught and therefore easier on lots of levels. You can have the obligatory cup of coffee/cocktail as a natural extension of the Mmmm? experience. Much more New York.
Interestingly apparently New York men and women alike swipe left (not interested) 70% of the time and swipe right (like to meet) 30% of the time. That’s above the ‘like to meet’ responsses anyone is likely to have in a bar environment. since Tinder has been super popular in the Olympic Village it would be fascinating if the 70/30% breakdown applied there too.
