Given the number of tourists who flood into NYC, 50.9m in 2011 and higher in 2013, it’s a wonder how well the tourists and NYC natives get along.
Of course it is a relationship of advantages flowing both ways so when those visitors bring $34.5 billion into the NYC economy who are New Yorkers to complain.
But that doesn’t mean there aren’t niggles at the edges and one of those is the clash between slow moving tourists and the fast moving, ‘got to get there real quick’ New Yorkers taking themselves wherever they need to go.
Charlie Todd’s Improv Everywhere group, the improvisation group who essentailly play very funny pranks on New Yorkers at large have satirized this clash with a wonderful, typical Improv Everywhere bit of fun.
Everyone you will see in the video playing an ‘official’ role is an Improv Everywhere performer. I particularly like the female city Official earnestly discussing with passers-by the new proposal to divide foot paths into tourists on one side and New Yorkers on the other.
Of course, where else but New York would you find a brilliant Improvisation Group doing their thing, so roll up tourists. We’ve got soooo much to show you. COMMENT on whether you think tourists are a nuisance or a help.
